Masa's approach to leveraging decentralized resources for running open-source LLMs efficiently addresses these capacity limitations, providing enhanced scalability and reliability for AI applications.

Masa operates as a subnet on the Avalanche blockchain, using cross-chain communications supported by LayerZero to access other networks as well. Avalanche subnets are completely independent

Encrypted data goes into the secure enclave (pictured above) along with the smart contract. This data is decrypted, processed by the smart contract, and then encrypted before it’s sent out again. This ensures that private user data remains confidential, and can’t be viewed by the node operator or the smart contract developer. 

Data privacy on this level unlocks a range of new use cases on the blockchain by allowing personal or sensitive data — such as bank statements, health information and social security numbers — to be used securely by apps built on the network. This potential is something that’s not safe on current blockchains such as Ethereum or Bitcoin.
