Human beings are intrigued by the outer world. Through GameFi, blockchain technology continues to make it possible to live, earn and thrive in these outer galaxies, albeit virtually. As a niche, the metaverse has presented gaming enthusiasts with endless opportunities to explore and flex their skills while cashing in through play-to-earn (P2E) games.
That said, the crypto gaming niche has become quite crowded, with a myriad of complex games that are at times too technical to play, let alone enjoy.
Not the Gunstar Metaverse game though.
Let’s explore this shoot-to-earn crypto game to learn all about its gameplay and value addition in the GameFi niche.
Gunstar Metaverse is a massively multiplayer online role-playing (MMORPG) NFT game built around a turn-based strategy where players can engage their tactical and intellectual skills to obtain real value in an enjoyable and exciting way.
Designed around a mega-sized virtual world known as Fantasy Star World, Gunstar Metaverse takes players on a reality-based adventure where they virtually summon their powers to save human civilization against monsters and beasts to bring back harmonious co-existence between mortals and mystical creatures.
Similar to Axie Infinity, players in Gunstar will need to work with their NFT pets to harness their analytical abilities in the game. Combined with human technology, Gunstar’s core gameplay is the NFT pet system which greatly influences every move in this 2D, turn-based strategy NFT game.
Powered by a dual-token system consisting of GST and GSC tokens, Gunstar Metaverse is on a mission to ensure that its blockchain-based P2E gaming platform provides players with real enjoyment while still earning.
Gunstar Metaverse applies a simple gameplay structure to make the game fun for all types of gaming enthusiasts from casual players to professional gamers. Its key components are riders (you), NFT pets and items that come together in a fast-paced simulated environment to ensure an adventurous and rewarding gaming experience.
Let’s look at each of these elements and how they power this cyber-prone game.
In Gunstar Metaverse, you take on the role of a rider, and you can opt to play the game using two methods; Free to Play, where you use a free pet (Rosaging) to play, or the Play to Earn mode where you earn NFT pets that can be traded on the marketplace.
As a rider, you gain experience by winning in Player versus Environment (PvE) games. For every battle won, you earn points. These points determine your rider level in the game.
During your matches, you can bring up to three in-game items with you. These items can only be earned through using GSC tokens to play the Fortune Wheel or through playing Campaign mode.
As mentioned, at the core of Gunstar’s gameplay is its robust NFT pet system. Pets are what you use to counter your opponent. At the moment, there are 23 types of pets with varying strengths and abilities available on Gunstar Metaverse.
These pets are further divided into other categories depending on rarity, size, skills and effects. You can acquire an NFT pet by hatching pet eggs acquired from the marketplace, purchasing or renting them from other players, or merging pet fragments.
Rarity is a vital aspect of any non-fungible token (NFT). Unlike most NFT games, having a pet with a higher rarity does not equate to an easier way to win a game. This ensures that the game is based on one’s skills rather than the amount of money one has to spend to obtain a higher-rarity pet.
The pet rarities in the game are, Ascend (highest rarity), Legendary, Mythic, Elite, Rare and Normal (lowest). With a higher rarity, you benefit from GSC bonuses and the ability to buy more rewarding passes.
There’s also the Trial rarity available on trial pets which are given to all players to sample the game.
Each of the 23 pets has one passive skill and three attacking skills. The three attacking skills are split into two normal skills and one ultimate skill. Each of the three skills serves three functions; skill delay, skill damage and skill effects.
There are 50 pet levels available in the game. Their highest possible level depends on your current rider level. To move a level up in the game, you’ll need GSC tokens and pet fragments. Each level in the game gives you six points to distribute among the six stats available on each pet; HP, Defense, Attack, Critical Chance, Critical Damage and Movement.
These are shards of pet souls that can be combined to form a new pet. You can acquire pet fragments by raiding Boss Milestones and Leaderboards in the game. You can use the acquired pet fragments to merge pet souls or upgrade pets to increase your power to level up.
New pets are introduced to Gunstar Metaverse through pet merging. You can create new pet species or own more pets through pet merging using pet fragments. To merge pets, you need to pay for pet fragments with GSC. Then you can use the pet fragments to create a pet soul which you can use to mint pets directly using GST tokens.
Like in most crypto virtual games such as The Sandbox and Decentraland that have incorporated metaverse real estate into their gameplay, having a house is essential when gaming on Gunstar Metaverse.
There are two types of houses available in the game; a player-owned and a system-owned house. You can opt to buy a house, rent from a fellow player or rent from the system. As a homeowner, you can rent out your house to earn passive income in the form of GSC tokens.
Currently, there are five game modes in Gunstar Metaverse, all designed to enhance a player’s experience. They are:
Campaign: Single PvE – In this mode, you explore StarWorld to build up your experience and gain mastery of your pet’s skills. You’re rewarded with experience points and GSC currency.
Raid boss: Single/Co-op PvE – This is a time-limited event that only opens at certain periods. You are rewarded with pet fragments that you can use for pet merging or to level up your pets.
Arena - Solo: In Arena PvP games, players fight each other to improve their ranks and earn ranked rewards at the end of each Arena Season. In the Solo Area, the player faces an opponent for a one-on-one match.
Arena - Team (Co-op PvP): In this mode, eight players in two teams engage in a four by four match. You can either match with your teammates or the system can help you randomly select teammates using a match-making system.
Battle PvP (DApp platform): This is an expanded version where players battle each other through the Battle Seasons. It aims to deliver easy fighting for players who have no time to explore StarWorld. It’s developed on the Gunstar Metaverse DApp which is different from the main PvP version.
Gunstar Metaverse is powered by two tokens – GSTS and GSC.
As the external governance and utility token for Gunstar Metaverse, GSTS (formerly GST) is built on the BNB Chain. You can earn it by participating in the PvP arena, trading it in the marketplace or joining a battle in the DApp. It’s mainly used for:
Buying and renting pets
Exchanging pets
Buying and selling houses
Governance
GSC is the in-game currency for Gunstar Metaverse and is unlimited in supply. You can earn it in various ways such as participating in campaign game mode, completing PvP/PvE Arena quests, or exchanging it directly with the other players. Its utilities in the game are:
For pet merging using pet fragments to create NFT pets
To level up pets
Paying rent
Transportation
To roll in-game items using the fortune wheel
GSTS has a total supply of 400 million tokens. The token will be released into circulation gradually over 43 months from launch. Based on the token release schedule, GSTS has a current circulating supply of 101,117,777 tokens. The token allocation for GSTS is as shown below:
The Gunstar Metaverse token was launched through an Initial DEX Offering (IDO) in November 2021 where it entered the market at $1.36. However, GSTS’s token price dumped immediately to a low of $0.42 in mid-December 2021.
After a slight recovery the following week, GSTS’s price continued to decline into the early months of 2022. The price bottomed out in March 2022 at $0.06 and remained stagnant for several months.
The price recovered slightly on Jul 24, 2022 when it pumped to $0.11 following the rebranding of the token from GST to GSTS on Jul 21 to avoid confusion with other tokens. Thereafter, the price dropped steadily to $0.0047 as of Feb 20, 2023.
Crypto price prediction experts have mixed outlooks about the future price of GSTS. Analysts at PricePrediction are bullish on GSTS and forecast that the price could cross the $1 level and hit a maximum price of $1.19 in 2029 and increase to $1.79 by 2030.
However, technical analysts at DigitalCoinPrice are less optimistic about the token’s price where they predict a maximum price of $0.0353 by 2029 which could rise to $0.0495 in 2030.
Despite mixed price predictions and a falling price for now, if you're an avid gamer, you might wish to consider Gunstar Metaverse as a long-term investment since it has created a simple and fun game that even novices in gaming can enjoy.
The Gunstar team is constantly improving the virtual game and recently announced Gameplay update 3.0 which added a new pet for players to use in the game. The update also fixed bugs and improved the game server. In addition, a strong support team lies behind the game, dedicating support to players to different countries such as Brazil, Spain, Thailand and Indonesia.
Gunstar Metaverse has also made strategic partnerships by collaborating with other P2E games such as SolChicks as well as partnering with GameFi analytic platforms and gaming guilds to improve its GameFi system and increase its brand awareness. Its commitment to growth has attracted many venture capital firms such as Black Ventures, IceTea Labs and GuildFi, raising $2.3 million in its seed and private sale round in 2021.
However, given the mixed opinions from price prediction experts, we highly recommend that you do your own research (DYOR) before investing in altcoins like GSTS.
GSTS is available on leading crypto exchanges such as Bybit. You can buy GSTS on Bybit by creating an account on the platform and funding it with USDT. Once funded, you can trade the GSTS/USDT Spot trading pair on Bybit’s intuitive trading terminal.
From Feb 20 to Mar 6, 2023, you can earn more GSTS by participating in the GSTS carnival which is split into five fun events!
Gunstar Metaverse offers an exciting adventure beyond that of a mere tactic game in which players can explore its various lands and engage in thrilling battles while earning crypto at the same time. It also has an exciting NFT pet system which allows players to create new pets and even new pet species.
As the NFT and metaverse space continues to experience explosive growth, Gunstar’s NFT turn-based game could reap big from this highly promising crypto niche if it continues to improve on its GameFi system to bring even more fun ways to earn crypto in the game.
