Circle's USD Coin (USDC) is now natively available on the Base and Optimism networks, allowing transfers from Coinbase and Circle accounts to these platforms for the first time. The move is part of Circle's effort to develop a system for users to swap older, bridged versions of USDC for the new, official ones. Despite the official launch, many decentralized exchanges on these networks continue to use the old version of USDC, also known as USDC.e, as liquidity has not fully migrated to the native USDC which may take some time. The expansion comes as Circle faces increasing competition from other stablecoins like Tether, First Digital USD, and PayPal USD.
